Fall-tastic apero: celebrating the new fall semester with a toast!

"Did you have a good summer?"

Mischievous rays of sunshine on the rooftop of the Vortex, glasses clinking to the rhythm of a five to seven open bar, about fifty happy faces and a few nostalgic "Did you have a good summer?" were the mood at the CLIMACT Fall-tastic apero held on 25 September.

The event gave the CLIMACT community, its Scholars and a number of industry players the opportunity to network, make new acquaintances and imagine future collaborations.

It was also an opportunity for the new academic co-director, Samuel Jaccard, to unveil the wide-ranging programme for the 4th seminar season, which starts on Monday 2 October, in the presence of Elise Buckle, co-founder of SHE Changes Climate.

Julia Steinberger, meanwhile, announced the imminent opening of two positions on the governance of CLIMACT Scholars, an initiative launched one and a half years ago, as well as the "How to set up an efficient publication strategy" workshop that she will be leading on 30 October, from 8:30 to 11:30. Discussion cards with a pinch of salt

When it comes to the responsibility of the climate crisis, who's really to blame? Past, present, or future generations? The wealthy nations or the up-and-comers? Or is it all Trump’s fault?

How should we address the fact that poor and marginalised communities often bear the brunt of climate change impacts, despite having never taken a plane for a 36 hours life numbing bachelor.ette party in Barcelona? Please be specific.

To what extent should we rely on technology and tech companies to solve the climate crisis? And why is the latest iPhone 15 Pro Ultra part of the solution? Please detail your answer.

These were just some of the questions that the participants were given the freedom to debate in groups, in an informal and interdisciplinary way, with the mission of solving the major climate challenges of the century in the span of one evening. If this heroic task wasn't quite accomplished, it at least had the advantage of plunging them into the new semester far from eco-anxious preoccupations and in good spirits.
