3rd CLIMACT Seminar Series - Episode #4

(Democratically) legitimate climate action?

To reach net zero society, a sustainability transition in different systems such as food, electricity, or transport is needed. What is the role policy and politics can play therein? What action seems (democratically) legitimate and at the same time fulfilling principles of sustainability? Are democracies sustainable; and is sustainability democratic? To answer these questions, I will outline the climate performance of different states and political systems at first place. I will then talk about the role of science and civil societal action. I will conclude with some compatible forms of decision-making that fulfil both, sustainability and democracy principles.
